Blackarrow,

you have not understood what i say properly although i used colourful language.

my concern is NOT about the withdrwal or consolidation on previous FDLs, etc.

it is about NOT killing the maximum number of tigers. i cannot understand how the destruction of empty bunkers can achieve anything.

these can be rebuild very easily as tigers have done in the past.

the battlefront is not only in Mannar; there are four battlefronts in the north.

the midnight operation should have specifically targetted cadres than infrastructure.

we also need to neutralise tiger arti. positions in Pooneryn.

there is no point in capturing muhamalia, etc. without neutralising tiger mortar positions that are 20-35 km away!

Canadian card scam: Tiger link probed

A routine traffic stop in Toronto has sparked a widening police probe of a debit-card fraud that may have funnelled funds to the LTTE from Canada.

Yes you may be right. Believe it or not I had a chance to speak personally with this person, fellow soldiers and his junior officer. I believe what they have told me.

Interesting article here by Dayan Jayatilake:

“I think that image is a fake.
The planes are really there but the soldier in the right hand side of the image looks cropped.”

You’re right, Snake. Also, the hoardings in the background have been added.

Renegade, those are not Hunters. The Hunter sits with its tail lower, and have a wider wingspan.

“If you read any given sniper guns specifications it says maximum range is only 800m-1200m. But this guy is manage to shoot by far as 1.5km. It is very difficult to hit moving targets at windy nights(wind is the biggest problem)”

Matara Aiya, how can the SLAF sniper have hit the Tigers at 1.5km range when the distance from the perimeter fence to the tower is less than a kilometer? Also, even if he could’ve hit ‘em at this range in daylight, there are no rifle-mountable night vision scopes that have that range. A sniper kill at 400m at night is pretty good anyway, so he’s still a hero.

FYI the longest recorded sniper kill is by Cpl Rob Furlong of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Afghanistan in March 2002, using a MacMillan TAC-50 at 2,430m in daylight. Before that the longest recorded kill was by GSgt Carlos Hathcock in Vietnam, using a scoped .50-in heavy machine-gun at 2,250m in daylight. Any chance of using the HISAR as long range artillery spotter for SLA instead of SLAF wasting LGB’s.

For a Air Strike, Cost of mission = (Proportional Cost of Mig/KFir per flying hour x Hours for Mission) + Cost of Bomb + Cost of LG unit + Proportional cost of Training for pilot + Other Costs

For artillery/HISAR combo strike, cost of mission will be significantly less.

BTW, is there anything called Laser Targeted Artillery and does SLA have this?

Yesterday Navy Com.Wasantha Karannagoda said on Thulawa (ITN)

Soon the Army will target the remaining Sea Tiger Bases in Mulathive using artillery. Is that mean the War will end up soon? and he said Navy will not let VP to escape from the country using Sea.

“please understand I don’t want to redicule the forces. But most of you will agree that we need a DIFFERENT STRATEGY for the South Jaffna FDLs.”

Moshe, the reason you’re disappointed is because you jumped to the conclusion that this was an offensive to capture EPS. Look at the entire strategic situation before assuming things. Don’t ask for a different strategy when you don’t understand the strategy in the first place. The main pressure on the LTTE is in the Wanni. Why should the security forces waste time pushing south on the Muhamalai-Nagarkovil front? It’ll have no bearing on the Wanni. The fighting on the peninsula is merely to distract the LTTE and destabilize their frontline so that they cannot use it as a start point for their own diversionary push towards Jaffna. We are gonna see many more of these raids by the Army. In fact, I hope they do a few amphibious raids as well against the Pooneryn peninsula so that it can’t be used as a firebase for Tiger arty hitting Palaly.
